Ottawa EVOL Premiere

EVOL – Ottawa award-winning action film – premieres on the big screen.

evolmayfair2010EVOL, Ottawa’s second award-winning action movie, filmed and produced in the capital, will have its Ottawa premiere at the Mayfair Theatre on Friday Nov. 19th and Sunday Nov. 21st. EVOL was among the leading films competing at last summer’s Action On Film Festival in Pasadena, California, where it received a whopping 5 award nominations, a sold out screening and left the festival with the “Audience Choice Award”. An achievement deemed unattainable when competing with movies with multi-million dollar budgets.

EVOL (love spelt backwards) follows the story of Randy Love, former bodyguard of a deceased business mogul who finds out that his client left behind three sons known as Volcano, Earthquake and Hurricane. Before his death, the business man secures a life insurance policy on his sons worth 3 million dollars. As a result of their strong friendship and trust, the father assigns Love as the beneficiary. Miles Harrisson, another former client of Randy Love, tempts Randy to arrange the deaths of the sons in order to acquire the money. Love is left with one choice, either to start anew as the son’s bodyguard or succumb to the manipulations of his greed.

The film is a hard-hitting, thought-provoking action thriller that is written and directed by african filmmaker Pascal Aka, who co-produced it with stunt actor André Givogue. The film stars up and coming stunt actor Dennis Lafond, who orchestrated the award-nominated action of the film. Lafond recently participated as a stunt performer in Universal Studio’s “Scott Pilgrim vs The World” and The Immortals” starring Mickey Rourke. In 2009, the group (mostly known as Ottawa Action Team) represented Ottawa at the Action On film Festival with their previous feature “Jamie and Eddie: Souls of Strife”, which was nominated for Best Foreign Film and left the festival with the “Best Action Sequence” award. EVOL is a cinematic work of art that is a result of 2 years of hard passionate work, involving some of the best of Ottawa’s on-screen performers. The team once again have made history for Ottawa’s filmmaking community and look to celebrate this achievement on the big screen with the nation’s capital.

André Givogue In “The Day”

The_Day_PosterAndré Givogue got the opportunity to work as SSE (Special Skills Extra) for the post-apocalyptic thriller “The Day” shot in Ottawa.

The plot outline goes as follows: “An apocalyptic siege warfare film spanning 24 hrs during which a small group of survivors are pit against insurmountable odds.” That sounds pretty cool doesn’t it?

This movie directed by Doug Aarniokoski brings together a pretty great cast: Dominic Monaghan (The Lord Of The Rings, Lost), Ashley Bell (The Last Exorcism), Shawn Ashmore (Frozen, The Ruins, X-Men), Shannyn Sossamon (One Missed Call, How To Make It In America) and Cory Hardrict (Battle: Los Angeles, Gran Torino) anchoring things.

As SSE, André Givogue (among other skilled actors and stuntmen) were right there in the heat of the action, needless to say, it was pretty awesome! You can visit the Facebook Page for additional movie pictures, artwork, etc.  Here is the teaser trailer for you to view.
